Sell and share
Share what you make for free or sell it on Maru: sampler banks, native plug-ins with license activation, pricing, payouts, refunds and testers, and what is still in beta.
When something you built is ready, you can share it for free or put a price on it. Maru handles checkout, receipts, refunds and license activation, so you do not need your own store, payment account or licensing code.
Selling on Maru is in beta. Checkout and payouts are built but are still being qualified for production, so the details below describe the current beta and may change before launch.
What you can sell or share
| You made | What the buyer gets | How |
|---|---|---|
| A sampler bank | A bank that plays in Maru Sampler | Put the bank on sale; its download then requires a purchase. No code needed. |
| A native plug-in | A VST3, AU or CLAP build that activates with their Maru account, with a trial and offline use | Turn on plug-in licensing, make a release build and set a price |
| Anything, for free | The module, bank or interface | Publish it without a price |
| Remixable source | Source others may adapt under remix terms | The Maru Remix License |
A sampler bank is not a compiled plug-in: buyers play it in Maru Sampler. Selling native plug-ins depends on release builds, which are currently available to developers in the selected-developer beta.
How selling works
- Pricing. Set a price between US$5 and US$500 per item. Prices are in US dollars. Maru is the seller of record, so buyers see one checkout and one receipt.
- Licenses. A purchase grants the buyer the product, and that grant is their license. For a plug-in, the buyer signs in once from the plug-in and approves the computer in their browser. You choose how many computers a license covers and how long the trial lasts.
- Refunds. Buyers have a 30-day refund window. A full refund withdraws the license; a refunded plug-in stops at its next check.
- Testers. Give up to 25 testers a free copy of a licensed plug-in, and revoke it at any time.
- Getting paid. Set up payouts once through Stripe's own hosted onboarding; Maru never asks for your Stripe keys. Your earnings page shows balances, sales and payouts. Earnings are held for 30 days to cover refunds, and payouts start once your balance reaches US$50.
You see counts of sales, trials and activations. Buyers' computers, countries and networks stay private.
Before you sell
- Rights. You need the right to sell every sample, recording, model and piece of code in the product. A bank download shares its samples, so each one must allow redistribution.
- Generated sounds. Check the terms for any generated audio you include; rights can differ by model.
- A useful demo. A clear name, artwork, a starting preset and a representative demo help people decide.

Technical details
Plug-in licensing is one command in the module's folder, after the module is linked to a Studio project:
maru module deploy maru module license on --seats 3 --trial 14 maru plugin build --release
Only release builds include licensing; development builds and maru dev
process audio without activation. A face can show the license state through
the optional license prop. Plug-in licensing covers
seats, trials, offline grace, testers and status.
Package and release audio plug-ins
covers platform builds and delivery.
