Maru Sampler
FreeOne sampler, a collection of instruments. Explore sampled pianos, harps, drum kits, and percussion, then make them your own.

Explore what we’re building at Maru, from effects that shape your sound to visual tools that help you understand it. They give us a practical setting for developing sound, controls, and the software behind them.

One sampler, a collection of instruments. Explore sampled pianos, harps, drum kits, and percussion, then make them your own.

A stereo delay with reverb, saturation, and compression, developed with Jazz Calls Home from her vocal effects chain.

See your sound in motion. Inspect its spectrum, waveform, and stereo field with a transparent audio monitoring tool.

Six effects. Your order. Build a stereo chain with filters, dynamics, drive, delay, modulation, and reverb.

A rhythmic effect that lowers the sound around the kick and clap, then brings it back with the beat.

A guitar effects chain combining compression, boost, tremolo, spring reverb, and tape delay.

Build a room around your recording. Place the sound and microphones, change its surfaces, and hear the reflections take shape.

Explore all pluginsWe created our audio engine from scratch. It's fast, powerful and cross-platform.
We’re hands-on builders exploring how academic research, emerging technology, and creative practice can work together.
Our focus is connecting these pieces into an ecosystem of musical tools. Four directions guide the work, from understanding what exists to building and testing it with others.
We map the tools, research, and workflows of audio development to identify gaps and connections. Plugin benchmarking helps us compare approaches and understand how systems behave.
We develop the Engine, SDKs, and workflows for audio builders, alongside music analysis tools for researchers exploring new ways to represent and understand music.
We build instruments, plugins, and effects that musicians can use, with practical examples that show how research and technology work together in real musical settings.
We work with artists, researchers, and audio companies on instruments, integrations, and research tools that answer real needs. These partnerships connect the lab’s work to the people who will use it.
We help artists express their creativity through new instruments, effects, and musical tools. As audio development becomes more accessible, we work with them to turn their sounds, ideas, and ways of making music into tools others can play.

Artist collaboration
An enveloping vocal effect, rebuilt session after session. We worked with Jazz Calls Home to turn her own effects chain into one expressive plugin, bringing the sound of her sessions into other musicians’ hands.
Have a musical process you’d like to explore with us?
It might be an effects chain, a playing technique, or a collection of sounds. Tell us how you work and what you would like to make.

Maru Engine
We built Maru Engine to connect the pieces of audio development and make multi-platform module authoring faster and more robust. The goal is simple: tools that sound great, look good, and work across browsers, DAWs, and hardware.
TypeScript SDKs, reusable audio components, a modern UI kit, and working examples bring sound, graphics, and deployment into one workflow.

Compose instruments, effects, and MIDI tools from reusable DSP components. Connect models and services through shared APIs.
Build expressive interfaces with ready-made controls, meters, visualizers, and layouts. Develop the interaction alongside the sound.
Bring sound, controls, and presets from the same project into browsers, native plugins, and hardware.
Start from playable instruments and effects, inspect how they work, and use shared tools to compile, test, and package your own.
What you can build with
We’re interested in working with developers, researchers, and audio teams on shared tools and open-source projects. Some work is still being prepared for public release; access and licensing are described for each project.
Discuss a technical collaborationMaru Studio
Create instruments, sampler banks, and effects with a coding agent. Connect modules and play the result in your browser. No development setup or coding required.
Describe the sound and controls you want. The agent builds with Engine components, and you play, listen, and refine.

Tell the agent what you want to make: an instrument, a sampler bank, an effects chain, or a new way to connect modules. Start from an example or explore something of your own.
Play your creation in the browser as it takes shape. Try the controls, listen to the result, and ask the agent to refine the sound and interface.
Bring your tool into your music-making setup, share it with others, or prepare a release to sell. Our team helps you prepare and test plugin downloads.
Studio is in early preview. We’re looking for experienced and aspiring plugin developers to try it, explore what they can make, and help shape the workflow. Get in touch.
Work with us
We welcome artists, developers, and organizations interested in the future of music. Bring us an idea to build, a problem to solve, or a direction to explore.
Artists and sound designers
Explore an instrument, effect, or sound collection shaped by your own work. You might bring a recording process, a performance technique, or an idea for a tool you want to use.
Companies and research organizations
Work with us through consulting, technical support, a pilot project, or hands-on development. License a specific technology or partner on research. From a few hours of advice to a longer collaboration, we can shape the work around your team’s needs.
We also welcome introductions from people interested in joining the lab, including researchers and research engineers. See opportunities at Maru or tell us about a collaboration.
