Listing and takedown policy
How the firmware catalog decides what appears, what Maru will and will not host, and how authors and makers can reach us.
- What we list
- Firmware that runs on a listed device, whether open source, closed and free, or paid. Each listing names its author, its licence as stated by its source on a given date, its latest version and the author's own install page. Closed and paid firmware is listed as a link to the author only.
- Ranking
- No paid placement and no editorial boost. Catalog order is by name, update date or GitHub stars, chosen by the reader. Firmware made by Maru, when there is any, is listed and ranked like everyone else's.
- What we host
- Nothing yet. Every install link goes to the author. If Maru later offers installs, it will mirror only open-source releases, unchanged, with the source archive for the same release beside each binary, and only after the author has been told.
- Never hosted
- Vendor firmware or vendor presets, and anything that changes radio parameters. To restore stock firmware, download it from the vendor yourself.
- Author requests
- An author can ask us to correct, delist or stop hosting their firmware. We honour that within two business days, even where the licence would allow us to keep it.
- Vendor requests
- Requests from a device maker are reviewed promptly, and the maker gets a named contact.
- Rights claims
- Copyright and trademark claims follow the site's notice-and-takedown process.
- Safety withdrawals
- When credible reports show a release damaging units, we withdraw it at once, tell the author and, once following is available, notify the people who follow it.
To make a request, use the contact page and name the listing. Device and brand names are used only to say which hardware a firmware runs on.
